THE IMPORTS IN THE PBA : A SIGN OF DESPERATION

I am extremely surprised why the PBA has decided to revert back to the three conference format with two conferences having imports. Instead of giving  local players the greater opportunity to play, the format will only give undue employment to foreign players. The PBA is hoping that the presence of imports will generate greater interest and income. But what I think will certainly generate greater interest in the PBA are the local players who will play their hearts out in every game. Less predictability in the outcome of the games will likewise make the league exciting and fun to watch. Coaches can also employ new and innovative plays to make the games as exciting as those seen in international basketball competitions. Rivalries between teams and players can perk things up as well. PBA fans will troop to the games once they see that new things are happening in the PBA. The import formula is an old formula whose time I think ended a long time ago. The sooner the PBA realizes this, the better for its survival.
