JAMES YAP HITS THE JACKPOT

James Yap is one lucky guy. After winning his second MVP award, James now wins over 90M pesos from Kris Aquino. The amount is part of the settlement for the annulment of his marriage to the very controversial celebrity.
What makes James Yap's greed and shamelessness so repulsive is the fact that he is the highest paid PBA player today. He demonstrates such insensitivity and greed that he appears to be worse than a good-for-nothing gold-digger. It is just so sickening to know that James could demand something which he never worked for much less owns. Contrast James Yap's behavior with Kris Aquino's decision not to ask for child support from James. It is plain to see who really is more likely to be at fault why their marriage failed. Interestingly, despite James Yap's pronouncements that he loves and terribly misses his son, he does not give financial support to his own son.
The latest news is that James Yap might enter the entertainment industry. No less than Kuya Germs thinks that James Yap has a good career ahead of him in showbiz. Indeed, James Yap is one lucky guy.

THE IMPORTS IN THE PBA : A SIGN OF DESPERATION

I am extremely surprised why the PBA has decided to revert back to the three conference format with two conferences having imports. Instead of giving  local players the greater opportunity to play, the format will only give undue employment to foreign players. The PBA is hoping that the presence of imports will generate greater interest and income. But what I think will certainly generate greater interest in the PBA are the local players who will play their hearts out in every game. Less predictability in the outcome of the games will likewise make the league exciting and fun to watch. Coaches can also employ new and innovative plays to make the games as exciting as those seen in international basketball competitions. Rivalries between teams and players can perk things up as well. PBA fans will troop to the games once they see that new things are happening in the PBA. The import formula is an old formula whose time I think ended a long time ago. The sooner the PBA realizes this, the better for its survival.

CHARICE PEMPENGCO, GLEE AND FILIPINO VALUES

I saw Glee's Britney Spears episode last night. I was hoping to see Charice make her second appearance in the highly popular show. But the credits flashed with Charice not making even a brief appearance.
From reliable sources, Charice will not be in the Britney and Rocky Horror episodes. She might make her second appearance on the fourth or fifth episode. But to this day, she has yet to receive her script for the said episodes. It makes me wonder if Charice will truly be a regular cast member or merely a regular guest star.
Interestingly, from the first episode, Sunshine decides not to join the glee club.  She opts for another singing group primarily because of the green card that will be given to her and her mom upon joining the singing group. In typical Filipino fashion, Sunshine grabs the opportunity to get a green card. Add to the equation a condo unit and she but naturally heads for the more financially rewarding option.
I think the show's depiction of Filipinos while true for a lot of Filipinos, may be an affront to a few. After all, there are Filipinos who do the right thing even without considering the financial aspects of things. There are those who value the greater good of others than monetary gain.
I think Sunshine Corazon deserves her limited exposure in Glee. People who are only after material gain deserve to be less seen.

CCF AND THE TRUTH

I read a post from CCF's website about how important it is to know the truth. I can't believe that CCF has the nerve to lecture on the importance about the truth when it hid from its members the truth about an incident in the recent past.
Still, I wish to tackle what CCF posted concerning a bible verse that I think it takes in a wrong way. Galatians 1:16 says,

Nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Jesus Christ.

CCF cites the verse to promote the doctrine that good works is not needed for justification in the eyes of God. But does the verse truly promote such doctrine ? Just what type of work is being discussed in this particular verse ? Clearly, the work being discussed by Galatians 1:16 is the work dictated by the law of Moses. The work done in accordance with the law of Moses will never justify anyone. One can never be justified by observing the 613 laws of Moses.
Now, compare the verse above with Philippians 2:12-13 which says,

Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

The work, according to Philippians, that is needed for salvation is the one which is done through one's faith. The work that results from one's true faith and belief is the one which is important in working out one's salvation. It is the kind of work that is God-designed and inspired. It is the kind of work that is aligned with God's will and purpose. It is the kind of work that saves. James 2:24 says,

You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.

So who is truly telling the truth ?

KRIS AQUINO AXED AND WOUNDED

Kris Aquino will be hosting Pilipinas Win na WIN for the last time this coming Friday. In a last ditch effort to save the noontime show, ABS-CBN has decided to replace Kris Aquino with a bunch of male singers who enjoyed the peak of their careers in the 70's.
I salute Kris for having the courage to tell it like it is. She did not hide the fact that she was really axed from the show. And she did not mind that she is being replaced by a bunch of has-beens.
In any case, Kris Aquino will have two new shows to keep her busy. Perhaps now, ABS-CBN has finally realized that Kris is no Willie Revillame. Kris just does not have the mass appeal of Willie. ABS-CBN should really study carefully the shows that it gives Kris Aquino. She seems to be losing her touch.

JAYPEE

Jaypee has just landed a job in a shipping company in Manila. It is his first job and is looking forward to immersing himself in the corporate world. But his zest for work begins to dissipate as he discovers that the people at work are difficult to deal with. He is branded lazy by the people at work despite the fact that he reports as early as 7:00 am.  He handles events for the company all by himself as his officemates refuse to lend a helping hand. His boss hardly has a kind word to say to him. He is now seriously considering resigning from his present job.
While Jaypee's story is not new, I am still puzzled why a lot of people find joy in making other people's lives miserable. Instead of giving hope, a lot of people would rather hand out despair. Instead of teaching a newcomer to succeed, a lot of people would rather see the rookie fail. Instead of finding joy in building up a person, some would rather destroy the very essence of one's well-being. I just pray that people find it in their hearts to be a blessing to everyone. After all, it is the Christian thing to do.

THE INTERESTING CASE OF MARK CAGUIOA

Mark Caguioa has been retained by Ginebra for the 36th season of the PBA. With the way Coach Jong  benched Mark Caguioa last conference, it just surprises me to know that Mark is still with the most popular team in the PBA. Did the fans play a crucial role in management's decision to retain Mark Caguioa ?
I just wonder what role Caguioa will play with the team. Will Coach Jong still designate him as the go-to-guy and undisputed leader of the team ? Or will he play second fiddle to Willie Miller and Jayjay Helterbrand ? Worse, will Mark Caguioa see limited playing minutes ?
But I definitely expect Caguioa to play his best whenever he is on the court. He will try to maximize whatever playing time he will be given. I feel that Caguioa will play his best if only to prove that he deserves his place in the team. And the fans will surely love to see Caguioa back in top form and doing what he does best.

THE BIBLE AND CHRISTIANITY

Below are some interesting facts or details about the bible and the Christian doctrine that need to be examined :

1. The bible is without error or discrepancy. - Well, church leaders and pastors tell us that the bible is inerrant and does not contain contradictions. But is it truly free from error and contradictions ? We can look at the bible and see for ourselves several contradictions and factual errors. See http://www.freethoughtdebater.com/tenbiblecontradictions.htm

2. Faith alone saves. - Pastors would like us to believe that all is we need is faith to be saved. But James 2:24 says,
Ye see that by works a man is justified, and not by faith alone.

3. God is everywhere. - Is God omnipresent ? Whatever happened to the belief that God is in heaven ? Could it be that God sees all things without being everywhere ? Proverbs 15:3 says,
The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch of the wicked and good.

4. Tithing is an important form of worship. - Jesus and his disciples NEVER tithed. Does it mean that they did not worship God ? Certainly not. It just goes to show that it is not a valid form of worship. Jesus and his disciples GAVE. And to give is what is expected of Christians especially to those in need.

5. Jesus commanded His disciples to baptize in the name of the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit. - If Jesus did command His disciples to baptize in the name of the trinity, how come not a single one of them did ?

Our faith must be based on the logical truth. We should see things as they truly are. It is the truth will set us free.

NOW IS THE BEST TIME FOR CCF TO WRITE TO ISRAEL

Israel plans to continue the construction of settlements in West Bank once its moratorium expires. Palestinian President Abbas declares that the continuation of the West Bank settlements will put the peace talks in great peril. President Abbas plans to abandon the peace talks with Israel once Israel acts during the expiration of its moratorium.
Even the U.S. and U.N. are finding ways to prevent a possible collapse of the peace talks. between Israel and Palestine. At a time where international governing bodies and nations around the world are trying to prevent Israel from provoking Palestine into war, CCF fails to put to good use its close ties with Israel. Now more than ever, CCF must write to Israel to tell the Israeli government to extend its moratorium and give peace a chance. It is time for CCF to put its Christianity into practice to save lives from a possible war. It is the right time to make a difference in the achievement of world peace.

CCF's FAVORITE VERSE IS FRAUDULENT ?

MATTHEW 28:19
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 28:19 is the guiding principle behind CCF as a church. But is the said verse an authentic part of the bible ? Many bible scholars think that Matthew 28:19 is an insertion and a fraudulent part of the bible. See http://www.everlastingkingdom.info/article/127/constantine-wrote-matthew-2819-into-your-bible.html
Keeping the analysis simple, I find it physically impossible for the disciples to go to every nation and make disciples. Why would Jesus instruct his disciples to do something humanly impossible ? Take note that the verse says ALL nations. It is not merely saying some nations but all nations. Secondly, the role of baptism as an extremely important part of one's salvation is highly questionable. Nowhere in the bible does it say that one needs to be baptized to be saved. Lastly, would Jesus really invoke the trinity ? Baptism has always been performed by the disciples in Jesus' name. Nowhere in the bible did the disciples perform the act of baptism in the name of the trinity. It would just be unthinkable that the disciples would disregard Jesus' commandment regarding the need to invoke the trinity during baptism if Jesus truly said the verse in Matthew 28:19.
So what does that make of CCF and its members ?

NANAY SEPA

I had an interesting chat with Nanay Sepa last night. Nanay Sepa is the 77 year old owner of the restaurant that I go to everyday. She recounted how life was so difficult during the Japanese occupation. She cited the death of her mother and not being able to give her a decent burial because of the war as the saddest moment of her life. She also recalled how several people were killed by Japanese soldiers using bayonets. What I found very interesting was that Nanay Sepa and her family did not have salt during Japanese occupation. They ate bland food if there was food available at all.
Nanay Sepa's life turned around when the Americans finally came. She was able to set up a store that had a jukebox which people loved at that time. She sold canned goods, Pall Mall, Salem, Coca Cola among other American products.
Nanay Sepa now owns practically a whole section of Pasay. Yet, she remains humble, generous and full of life. I have become her friend as I patronize her restaurant daily . I guess its my willingness to hear her story that truly endears me to her.

CHARICE PEMPENGCO : THE NEW PHILIPPINE ICON

Judging from her first appearance in Glee, Charice Pempengco will soon become a household name all over the world. Several new characters were introduced in Season 2 of the highly popular American show. But Charice as Sunshine Corazon, for me, made the greatest impact. The new football coach in the series however will win the Emmy next year.
What is going for Charice in the series is that she is made to play the role of an underdog. People just love the underdog. But Sunshine Corazon is not the typical Filipino underdog. While she is the typical simple and gullible Filipino, she speaks with an American accent. And she has the voice that I think is the best among the cast members. The show's handlers play her scenes well to leave the viewers breathless whenever she sings. This early, the producers and directors are playing their cards right by highlighting Sunshine's talent while at the same time leaving the viewers asking for more. Sunshine is made to appear in Glee with just the right amount of exposure to sustain interest in her.
I think it's time for Manny Pacquiao to move over. Charice Pempengco is here to stay as the Philippines' best and brightest star.

ARE CHRISTIANS INTOLERANT ?

John 14:6
Jesus answered, " I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
Often, Christians are regarded as intolerant of other religions. Christians are seen as narrow-minded individuals who see salvation as their exclusive right. But Christians have a strong basis for their belief that only those who believe in Jesus will enter the gates of heaven. They have the words of Jesus Himself to back up their claim and belief.
Upon closer examination of John 14:6, it is interesting to note that Jesus is not promoting a certain religion. What He is promoting is Himself. He declares that it is through Him, not religion, that one can be saved. The verse likewise teaches that heaven or salvation is offered to anyone who truly believes in Jesus. Salvation or heaven is a free gift to those who accept and believe in Him. Lastly, the verse is a declaration that involves certainty and no second guessing. Buddha, Mohammed, Confucius and other pillars of faith have not declared themselves to be the way to heaven or eternal life. Only Jesus makes the courageous claim that He alone is the way to eternal life.
It just saddens me that a lot of people still do not believe in Jesus. Two thousand years have passed and people still don't believe. Indeed, blessed are those who have not seen yet believe.

CCF CALOOCAN : THE UNTOLD STORY OF GREED

I has the opportunity to attend CCF Caloocan a few years back. I thought of how caring CCF was to accommodate those living in Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Bulacan. But after a few years, CCF Caloocan moved to a new venue. It moved to a new building in Bagong Barrio. But only after a year or so, CCF Caloocan stopped its operations.
It turned out that CCF did not intentionally set-up a satellite branch in Caloocan to serve the people living and working up north of Metro Manila. I found out that CCF established a branch in Caloocan to collect on a debt of an individual. Since the person did not have money to pay off his debt to a CCF member, his building space was used by CCF to settle his debt. CCF used the building space for  its own purposes with the rent used to offset the individual's debt.
When the debt was fully paid, CCF Caloocan had nowhere to go. Hence, it moved to Bagong Barrio. But it was clear that CCF Caloocan was not raking in money for the church. Hence, after a few months, CCF decide to stop its Caloocan operations.
Despite the billion peso fund of CCF, it decided to close down its Caloocan branch since it was a losing proposition financially. As I have always maintained, CCF conducts its operation in a highly business-like manner. The need to serve the spiritual needs of poor individuals comes second to the financial gain that can be derived from the church's operations. I would dare say that CCF Caloocan would still be around if it was making money for the church. Sadly, such was not the case.

CHARICE ON GLEE : A MATTER OF NATIONAL PRIDE

Charice Pempengco finally makes her debut in Glee Season 2 as Sunshine Corazon. Sunshine is an exchange student from the Philippines who possesses an outstanding voice. Her entry to Glee will pose a threat to Rachel Berry played by Lea Michele.
Much is expected from Charice as she takes on the role of Sunshine Corazon. Filipinos all over the world will watch the highly rated American show to see if Charice will be able to showcase the natural singing talent as well as the values of Filipinos. I am sure that every Filipino will be hoping that Charice upstages Lea in just about every episode. Every Filipino will treat each episode of Glee as a singing contest between Charice and other cast members.
I am confident though that Charice will just blow away the competition with her singing talent. While she lacks the looks that will endear her to American viewers, she will make people notice her with her amazing voice. Charice Pempengco will truly be the new pride of the Philippines.

BAKIT MARIEL RODRIGUEZ ?

MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM ?

May pagkain pa nga after every practice and even before and after each game sa dugout.

In the first place, wala talagang allowance ang varsity players ng U.P.. As far as I know, the team managers did their best to support the team with the help of the alumni. In the coming days, the team managers will come out with an official statement. Hopefully, the truth will out.

THE IIRC REPORT AND AQUINO'S PRESIDENCY

Now that the IIRC report has been released in China and the Philippines, I eagerly await whether President Noynoy Aquino has the political will to punish the people who failed to perform their duties. I am particularly interested to see whether P-Noy will really go after ABS-CBN, GMA7 and TV5 as recommended in the report.
But during his press conference, P-Noy admitted that the report is merely recommendatory. It will still be up for review whether those recommended to be charged will actually be charged. I fear that in the end, no one will be charged much less put in jail. The three biggest networks in the country will be merely reprimanded. After all, P-Noy can ill-afford to close down the said networks. Shutting down media, particularly the big networks, will only start his downfall. P-Noy must play his cards right with regards to the IIRC report. One wrong move will be detrimental to his presidency.

SYLVESTER : NEUTERED AND GRATEFUL

My cat, Sylvester, has just been neutered. The minor operation lasted for less than an hour. We were lucky to go to a good and caring veterinarian. Aside from the neuter, Sylvester got his iron and vitamin shots. The good vet also gave Sylvester a clipping of his claws.
Sylvester would not have had his neuter if not for the kindness of friends. The neuter is but the end result of the love that friends gladly gave to Sylvester. I do realize that these friends care enough to make sure that my pet leads a healthy and happy life. And for that Sylvester and I are truly grateful.

CCF AND ISRAEL ARE AT IT AGAIN

I am just shocked that CCF continues to dabble into politics through Israel In CCF's website, a pastor from Israel is encouraging CCF members to write to the government of Israel for the punishment of a man. The man killed several innocent civilians but cannot be put on trial because of his mental condition. The pastor wants the man jailed to prevent him from harming other civilians.
Obviously, like in the Philippines, a mentally challenged individual is spared from serving jail. The pastor in short, wants CCF members to  disregard the law and for the Israeli government to bow down to public demand. I just find it wrong that CCF members will involve itself in an issue that must be resolved by the people of Israel themselves.
When the whole world condemned Israel for the flotilla raid, CCF members chose to remain silent on the issue. Now that a new issue has come up that requires CCF members to remain silent, they are surprisingly taking an active stand. The mere posting of the letter of appeal of the pastor tells so much about the true values and beliefs of CCF. Frankly though, I am not surprised with its rather vague and confusing  values and beliefs. I am just happy that I am no longer with CCF in any way.

THE STUPIDITY OF THE SHAINA-JOHN LLOYD SCANDAL

The first time I heard the rumor, I just couldn't believe it. After all, medically speaking, what the well-known couple experienced is a rarity. But what makes the whole scandal so ridiculous is that it just won't die down. People have come out with their stories of verification instead of letting the rumor fizzle out. To make things worse, the couple deems it best not to deny nor confirm the rumor. A simple denial with a threat to sue the people spreading the malicious rumor will certainly end the nasty talk. But no, the couple seems to enjoy the mileage that they are getting from the scandal.
With their decision to let the scandal run its course, Shaina and John Lloyd deserve public censure. The two don't seem to highly value the truth. They can turn a blind eye on lies that are being spread about them. But then again, I can be wrong. The scandal might be true after all. And Shaina and John Lloyd simply cannot raise a howl for the truth will severely affect their respective careers.
I just wish that the two young stars will do the right thing. That is, take the necessary step to kill the nasty rumor once and for all. They owe it to the millions of Filipinos who are sick and tired of their indiscretion and stupidity. More sensible and honorable stars, please.

THE FALSE DOCTRINE OF FAITH ALONE SAVES

EPHESIANS 2:8-9
For it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast.
Often, the verse above is used by pastors to justify the doctrine that faith alone saves. That we do not have to have good works to be able to attain salvation. But try to ask these pastors if tithing is a form of good work. They will surely tell you that is definitely good work. Then tell them that since they themselves say that good works are not necessary that makes tithing unnecessary as well. Watch them turn mad as you try to deny them of 10% of your income.
Kidding aside, does the verse above really instruct Christians to forget about doing good works ?
MATTHEW 28:20
and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
Matthew 28:20 has a significant point as far as doing good works is concerned. Jesus reinforces the need to obey and consequently do what He has commanded His disciples. These commandments are binding not only on the disciples but to Christians as well. The verse too contains the promise of Jesus that He will be with those who will obey and do His commandments.
JAMES 2:24
You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.
It cannot get any clearer than the verse in James that good works are necessary for Christians to truly have the life that Jesus promises.
I hope that Christians become truly Christians through their works and not merely by professing their faith through words.
PHILIPPIANS 2:12-13
Therefore my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, WORK OUT your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.

ANOTHER P-NOY BLUNDER : A FACEBOOK TALE

I am in total disbelief that President Noynoy took the time to answer a Facebook post of a criminal. Obviously, taken in by the magnificent writing, P-Noy defended his administration from the accusations of Reyn Bernido. If only Noynoy Aquino and his men did a background check on Bernido, they would have known that the man solicited funds from well-known bloggers supposedly for charitable institutions. But the funds ended up in his own bank account.
It just defies logic that such a blunder was committed by no less than the president of the country. Ironically, in his post, P-Noy said something about how blunders will not define his administration. From the looks it, however, blunders committed in his administration are so ridiculously blatant and come just too often for comfort that they begin to define his leadership.

ARCHBISHOP CRUZ, JUETENG AND P-NOY'S INCOMPETENCY

I totally agree to what Archbishop said to P-Noy when the archbishop was told to name names regarding the jueteng payola. With all the resources and agencies under him, Noynoy does not need the former archbishop to identify who among his men are getting Php 2M a month from jueteng. He can easily get the names of his men who are benefiting from the illegal game if he really wants to. What really shocks me is that Noynoy does not seem to have a clue on the identity of the scums in his administration. He, more than anyone else, should be the one who must know the character and dealings of his men. It just stuns me to realize that the president does not know something significant which others are fully aware of. His men are able to engage in corrupt practices under his nose.
I truly agree with what the archbishop insists P-Noy should do. As president of the nation, P-Noy must be able to get to the bottom of things and not merely rely on what other people reveal. It is time for P-Noy to get to work and stop all those senseless press conferences that are all pure talk.

PROOF THAT JESUS WALKED THE EARTH

Aside from the bible, there are several accounts written by historians that identify Jesus. Two of the more popular accounts are those of Tacitus and Josephus. Tacitus has Annals 15.44 http://www.earlychristianwritings.com/tacitus.html. Josephus has Antiquities of the Jews 18.63-64 http://www.religioustolerance.org/mercurio01.htm. These accounts reveal that Jesus lived and existed. But to skeptics, these passages can be regarded as mere forgeries, Christian insertions or at best, inconclusive to identify the one and only Jesus of the Christian faith.
Personally, the best proof that Jesus walked the earth can be found in the Quran and the Christian persecutions. The Quran acknowledges the existence of Jesus though not His divine nature. Still, Jesus is the only personality to appear in two different holy books.
Lastly, the persecutions of Christians which exist up to the present is but an indication of a truth that cannot be denied. That is, people are willing to die for Jesus. In my humble opinion, I don't think that a person in his right mind will choose to die for a lie or myth. But thousands, if not millions, will choose to die for the truth.
Jesus, my God, is backed up by historical accounts, holy books and incidents. How about your God ?

THE BIGGEST REVELATION OF THE MANILA HOSTAGE CRISIS

It is not the incapability of the police force to effectively handle the hostage-taking that really upsets me the most. Nor is it the way media irresponsibly put the lives of several people in jeopardy. Rather, it is the complete and unwavering trust of P-Noy in his men that really upsets and shocks me. Despite the obvious errors midway into the hostage drama, P-Noy still left it completely to his men to decide what to do.
While P-Noy's complete trust in his men may be reassuring for some, I see it as an admission of his utter lack of knowledge, competency, initiative and strong will. He professes his utmost trust in his men to cover up his own shortcomings as a leader.
I guess P-Noy did not have much choice on what to do during the hostage drama than to watch his men handle the whole situation. He left his men to do their thing because he did not have a clue on what to do best. That is, other than to eat fried rice.

OPEN LETTER TO THE SENIOR PASTOR OF CCF

Dear Pastor Peter,
To this day, you have not clarified your role in a visit to Malacanang to accompany a bestselling author. Why did you accompany the author to Malacanang ? Did you intend to ask together with the author then president, Gloria Arroyo, to change the Philippine vote on an important U.N. resolution concerning Hamas and Israel ? Did you inform the members of your church of such an intention  and action ? I just feel that it does not speak well of a pastor to conceal his actions and true intentions to his followers. Why the complete silence on the issue to this day ? A categorical confirmation or denial is all that is needed to put the issue to rest.
Hoping for your immediate response to put the issue to rest once and for all.
Yours truly,
Eric

WORLD CUP OF POOL 2010 : CHINA OVERCOMES THE PHILIPPINES

Fu and Li of China destroyed the Philippine tandem of Orcollo and Gomez to win the 2010 World Cup of Pool. The Chinese duo effectively silenced the homecourt crowd by playing with greater strategy and accuracy. The Philippine team self-destructed by commiting several huge mistakes that eventually spelled its defeat. After a spectacular win in the semifinals, the Philippines commited error after error that left the crowd and televiewers dumbfounded. The match ended with China winning 10 racks against the 5 of the Philippines.
What I found irritating was the decision of the Philippine team to order Starbucks coffee during the match. At a time when much attention, concentration and composure were needed, the Philippine team had the gall to order and drink coffee. It just reminded me of someone who chose to eat than to attend to more pressing matters. And the scenario of China going up against the Philippines was strangely so familiar as well.

WHERE'S THE TRANSPARENCY IN THE AQUINO ADMINISTRATION ?

1. Who is the DILG undersecretary who is not being blamed at all for the hostage drama mess ? Why is Ramon Magsaysay awardee Sec. Robredo being used as the sacrificial lamb ? Why did VP Binay refuse the DILG post ?
2. What is the ATOCC ? Why does it have a yearly budget of 525M ? Who handles the 525M fund of ATOCC ? Why are there no papers establishing the formation of ATOCC ?
3. Why is the Philippine government not divulging the things that were discussed by President Noynoy and Chinese Ambassador Lui Janchao ?
These are questions which hardly anyone knows the answers to. President Noynoy takes pride in his administration as being transparent. Where now is the transparency ?

PRESIDENT FRIED RICE

I don't know whether it is his utter lack of concern or gluttony that upsets me so much. President Noynoy's trip to Emerald Restaurant to eat fried rice at the height of a crisis speaks a lot of the kind of leader that he is. While friends like Gelo and Jojo would sometimes have lunch late in the afternoon to finish their assignments, here is the president of the country attending to his hunger pangs first before resolving a crisis involving foreign nationals. And the whole scenario of watching a gruesome hostage-taking while eating heartily really makes me question the sensibility of the president. Dead bodies were being carried out of the bus and there was President Noynoy feasting on fried rice and prawns to his heart's content. It was as if he was merely watching a sitcom or PBA game as he ate his fried rice.
Despite my unique meal cycle, I waited for the hostage drama to come to its conclusion before remembering to have dinner. I simply had to commiserate with the victims and their families before attending to my growling stomach. But the fact is, I lost my appetite that fateful evening. I truly wonder why the president did not feel the same way. Of all people, he should have been the one most concerned and affected. He should have been the one to have set aside having dinner to attend to more pressing matters.

WELCOME HOME ANNA

I received a text message from a good friend saying that a college friend has come home for a short vacation. Our friend has come home after staying in the U.S. for at least 20 years. Several of our common friends are organizing a lunch get-together to allow everyone to catch up on what everyone else is busy with nowadays.
I immediately texted our balikbayan friend to welcome her home. She texted back and indicated how she wants to see the whole college gang once again. Immediately, I felt that our friendship has not changed one bit. The memories of ES1, KEM ( despite all, that organization helped me build strong friendships ), Fraulein and Engineering Week all came back to me. I felt so light and happy as I remembered the things that we did in college.
But being the anti-social that I am, I will probably not make it to the get-together. I just hate fixing up something to bring to get-togethers and traveling a great distance. But one thing is for sure. I will miss everyone saying that I now look so good. Welcome home Anna.

SECRETARY ROBREDO : A CLASSIC EXAMPLE OF A FILIPINO OFFICIAL WHO LACKS DELICADEZA

Instead of resigning from his post because of the shame that his office caused the whole nation, Sec. Robredo has the gall to ask for additional funds for his office from the national government. I consider it the height of stupidity and impropriety to ask for more money to fund such a useless organization. Instead of saving the president's face with his voluntary resignation, Sec. Robredo has further caused embarrassment to the president by insisting that he will not resign from his post. To add stupidity and incredulity to the whole situation, a facebook account has been put up by Harvey Keh to gather support for Sec. Robredo. If the same hostage drama and outcome happened in Japan or South Korea, officials would have immediately resigned without being told to do so. The whole hostage drama truly reveals the frailty of the Filipino people.

THE CLAUDINE BARRETTO - ANGELICA PANGANIBAN MESS

I find it strange that Claudine Barretto is taking the offensive in her fight with Angelica Panganiban. Instead of maintaining her silence, Claudine is the one issuing so many statements against her former friend. Perhaps, Claudine is putting up a brave front to scare and intimidate Angelica. But Angelica will not be intimidated because the truth is on her side. In fact, top ABS-CBN director Johnny Manahan is taking the side of Angelica. He openly declares that Angelica knows something about Claudine that can forever damage Claudine.
In the Philippines, it is so common to find the wrongdoer to be the one who has the guts to pick a fight. Instead of cowering in fear, the wrongdoers are the ones who seem bold and defiant. I must say that I truly find it strange. But once the truthful personality speaks against the wrongdoer, the bold and defiant will be put eventually in his proper place. The truth has a way of defending the meek and humble.

HONGKONG, CHINA, THE PHILIPPINES AND AN APOLOGY

I certainly think that Hongkong and China are justified in demanding an apology from the Philippine government with the way it handled the hostage drama . The incompetence and utter lack of urgency to resolve the hostage crisis are valid reasons for an apology. President Noynoy's refusal to answer calls from Donald Tsang at the height of the hostage crisis is simply outrageous and inexplicable. Now, as the Philippine investigation reveals the truth that President Noynoy, Gen. Magtibay and Mayor Lim abandoned their posts at the height of the hostage drama to eat fried rice and prawns, it is only proper the Philippines issues an apology. The media and police force may have had their shortcomings but the three top officials deserve much of the blame. Being the officials tasked to resolve the crisis, they must own up to their mistakes, miscalculations and improprieties. Healing can only come after an apology and an acceptance of one's costly mistakes.

FIBA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS : A TOURNAMENT OF SURPRISES

While the U.S. team is doing well as expected, there are a few teams in the current FIBA World Championships that are providing pleasant surprises. Turkey, for one, is playing well beyond expectations. With four straight wins, Turkey is on its way to the next stage of the tournament. France too is playing well, pulling off a huge upset over defending champion Spain. Brazil nearly won over the highly fancied U.S. team. But Angola, by far, is the biggest surprise of the tournament. It is the only African nation to advance to the next stage despite being tipped off as one of the first teams most likely to get eliminated. Coming in a close second as the surprise package of the tournament is New Zealand. Like Angola, New Zealand was not given much of a chance to get past the elimination stage. But New Zealand has proven its critics wrong by barging into the next round.
FIBA World Championships is truly a good watch because no one knows for sure which team will end as champion. Even the NBA players of the U.S. team can ill-afford to be complacent if they plan to top the tournament. So far, Serbia and Spain are the only teams assured so far of passage into the round of 8. There are just too many great teams in the tournament to accurately predict who will emerge champion. A truly exciting tournament indeed.

THE TRUTH IS OUT : PRESIDENT NOYNOY, MAYOR LIM AND GEN. MAGTIBAY SIMPLY ATE DINNER

Dinky Soliman was lying through her teeth ! When rumors started to circulate that President Noynoy chose to eat fried rice than to attend to the more pressing issue involving the death of  Hongkong nationals, she went on national television to declare that the Emerald Restaurant was used as a monitoring center. Hence, the presence of President Noynoy, Gen. Magtibay and Mayor Lim at Emerald. It turns out, the restaurant was not used as a monitoring center. It was merely used to monitor the hunger of the people who were suppose to attend to the damage caused by the hostage-taking.
Aside friom the utter lack of sense of purpose, propriety and urgency among our top officials, what is infuriating is that these officials can lie to millions of Filipinos with straight faces. Huli na, nagsisinungaling pa. It is so disgusting to realize that our top officials will lie just to save their asses. I am much disappointed with President Noynoy who merely has integrity and honesty to rely on. What the hostage drama revealed to Filipinos is that Noynoy is pretty much like our past presidents who lie to cover up mistakes and ineptitude.

SYLVESTER

I adopted Sylvester when he was barely two months old. Now, he is almost a full-grown adult cat. Though a little bit older, Sylvester still has the playfullness of a kitten. He still chases his own tail. He still nibbles my pen and paper whenever I write. He still sleeps on top of me every night. And he still scratches my back to wake me up for work at six o'clock in the morning.
Sylvester too has this habit of entering other people's houses. Good thing that my neighbors like him and feed him whenever he visits them. Sylvester, in fact, has become the official community cat that everybody loves. But I wish he would stay home more often. It gets too tiring to come home from work and still look for him among neighbors. Perhaps, it is time for Sylvester to be neutered. A good friend has suggested so. Perhaps, it is time to cut things off hehehe.

THE MANILA HOSTAGE DRAMA : AN UNENDING SOURCE OF EMBARRASSMENT FOR THE PHILIPPINES

After witnessing how the police force and government officials failed to rescue the Hongkong nationals during the infamous Manila hostage drama, I thought the worse is over for that embarrassing incident. But I guess the stupidity of Filipinos is just too much to contain. Now, a mix-up in the identities of the bodies of the victims further adds to the embarrassment of the country to the international community.
After holding ceremonies for their dead family members, bereaved Hongkong nationals were surprised to find out that the bodies inside the coffins are not their loved ones at all. The Philippine government obviously mislabeled the coffins which resulted in the mix-up. True to form, Filipino government officials once again displayed their total incompetence. Once again, the whole world is a witness to the gross negligence and outright stupidity of some Filipinos.
I certainly hope that Filipinos get their acts together to prevent further embarrassment to the international community. The embarrassment must end. And the best way to end it, I believe, is by being responsible and competent in performing one's assigned duty.

OPERATION NEW DAWN : PRESIDENT OBAMA'S SHINING MOMENT IN IRAQ

After 7 years of war in Iraq, the U.S. is now pulling out most of its troops. President Obama says that the time has come for Iraq to determine its own future. A turnover ceremony was led by Vice President Joe Biden to mark the end of war in Iraq and start of Operation New Dawn.
Notwithstanding the fact that Iraq is now in political disarray with the pull-out, President Obama's fulfillment of his campaign promise to end the war in Iraq is truly commendable. Instead of engaging in a war that hardly benefits the U.S., President Obama has decided to look at the war in Iraq for what it truly is and take the best course of action. Indirectly, President Obama admits the defeat of the U.S. in its war in Iraq. But as far as I am concerned,  the pull-out shows the winner in President Obama. I consider it noble for a president of a nation to accept defeat and move on to bigger things ahead.
