Noynoy Aquino's SONA is the best I have heard from a Philippine president. The speech was in the vernacular which reflected the president's desire to be understood by every Filipino. It was direct to the point with no intentions of being impressive. Yet, the speech was impressive nonetheless because of its simplicity and clear message.
More than anything else, Noynoy's SONA made a tremendous impact on me because it tackled the issue of culpability of former government officials. For the longest time ex-presidents of the country have gotten away with murder because no one dared to go after them after their terms of office. Noynoy is, I believe, the first to take definite action on a corrupt former president that has escaped persecution because of a corrupt judicial system. The message of his decision to create a Truth Commission to be headed by Justice Davide is an indication of his firm determination to stop corruption in the country. It sends the message across every Filipino that crime does not pay and that justice can be served in the country. At this point in time, the need to remind everyone of the beauty of honest work is badly needed. The concept that Filipinos have the means to improve their lives without resorting to corruption must be cultivated . It is time to restore dignity to every Filipino all over the world.
I am praying that Noynoy will be able to put his words into action. Millions of Filipinos need to realize that there is still hope for the country. Hopefully, Noynoy can make things happen and inspire Filipinos to dream and hope as justice finally prevails in the country.
