2016 ASIAN WOMEN'S CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP : WHY SMM AND NOT A BIG FILIPINO COMPANY

courtesy of mb.com.ph

The 2016 Asian Women's Club Championship is currently being held in the Philippines. But noticeably missing are the big Filipino companies that usually sponsor major sporting events. In fact it is SMM, a Thai company, that is the major sponsor of the tournament.

The truth of the matter is, bigwigs of top Filipino companies know the true character of the people behind the tournament. It is for this reason that highly-esteemed and well-known companies have decided to stay away from the event. The people behind the tournament simply do not exhibit the qualities and values that these top companies promote and uphold.

Thus, we do not see Jollibee, SM Group of Companies, Procter and Gamble, Toyota,  BDO, San Miguel Corporation, Ayala Corporation, Meralco and Universal Robina Corporation. Even PLDT Home Ultera is not a major sponsor of the event. Instead, we see SMM.

As long as the people behind LVPI and Philippine Superliga remain in power, sponsors will continue to distance themselves from volleyball events. In the end, the athletes and coaches suffer the most. But it just serves them right because not too long ago, these players and coaches refused to stand up for what is right and to stand behind the people who were really care about them and the sport.
