WHAT THE LVPI U23 GIRLS MUST ASK THEMSELVES

Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Incorporated (LVPI) President Joey Romasanta revealed the 14-woman pool for the U23 Philippine Women's Volleyball team yesterday afternoon. The pool is led by Ateneo player Alyssa Valdez, Aby Marano, Dindin Santiago-Manabat and her sister Jaja Santiago. Also in the pool are Jhie Morado, Bea de Leon, Gretchel Soltones, Alyssa Eroa, EJ Laure, Rea Meneses, Kim Fajardo, Tin Agno, Christine Rosario and Myla Pablo.

I am just shocked that these girls agreed to play for LVPI. LVPI is not recognized by FIVB and has no right to send a team to any FIVB event. FIVB will not and cannot issue a letter of attestation to LVPI since the letter will become the very evidence that FIVB violated its constitution. Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) will use the said letter of attestation of LVPI as primary evidence in a case that it will file before the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) in case FIVB indeed issues such an attestation.

Likewise, the girls are too naive to think that they will not be severely affected should PVF seek legal action against LVPI. The lawyer of PVF is Judd Roy who is a topnotch lawyer in the Philippines. Needless to say, Atty. Roy will exhaust all legal means to protect the interests of PVF.

But what is truly shocking for me is that these girls aligned themselves with the obviously-wrong, POC-backed LVPI. It does not take a rocket scientist to realize that POC gravely abused its authority to form LVPI and dislocate PVF. The girls have senselessly compromised their integrity in playing for LVPI.

Ultimately, the question that the girls must ask themselves is whether joining LVPI is the right thing to do. The question is really that simple.
