Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) President Boy Cantada submitted to Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc. (LVPI) a proposal that aims to to solve the impasse between the two warring federations. With the proposal, Cantada hopes to end the crisis in Philippine volleyball.
Hardly anyone knows what the contents of the proposal to LVPI are. But I certainly hope that a merger is not one of them.
In a merger, PVF will lose its identity and autonomy. It will give LVPI the right to meddle in the affairs and activities of PVF. In a merger too, the good people of PVF like Dr. Rustico Camangian, Karl Chan and Dr. Arnel Hajan will be forced to work with LVPI officials who lack credibility as effective sports leaders.
What Cantada should have proposed to LVPI is for PVF to handle the grassroots program for volleyball and autonomy in running the program. After all, two years have passed and LVPI has yet to create and formulate its own grassroots program. Autonomy must be given to PVF in running the grassroots program to ensure that the program is unhampered by politics which LVPI officials simply love to engage in.
Anything less will be irrelevant to PVF.
